All the Kings Men, starring Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins is a movie about both the bright and dark side of politics. Maybe more about the bright and dark side of wanting to help others for our own gains. It is built on a true story about a governor from Louisianna that probably would have become the president if he wouldn´t have been assasinated.

The set is great and camera angles and lighting sets the mood for scenes perfectly. There are som great monologes and the actors are convincing. Sean Penn shows once again what a great actor he is.
The story is multifacetted where all the good guys are also bad and all the bad guys are also good. Not so black and white as many superhero, action movies seem to be.
I recommend watching the special features where they talk about the true person portrait in the movie. He really did a lot of good for the poor and those who were outside the educational system. He left behind a legacy though hated by many.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0553804146.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpgEver wondered how the “bet” turned out, when I was to read one of my husbands books and he got to read two of mine. Well… I finished the book I had to read. Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz. If you like clowns you should read this book to find out the truth. If you, like me, have always been suspicious of clowns you should read this and realize that your suspicion was true all along.

The night Jimmy was born his grandfather made 5 predictions on his death bed. The 5 predictions came in the form of dates when extra evil events would force themselves on the grandson. The book is Jimmy´s story of these days.

My favorite character is the grandmother. She loves to take care of children and tell them stories. Often the regular fairy tales but with a twist of what she thinks is reality. The 7 dwarves were evil and the wolf really did eat the hunter as well, no rescue for little red riding hood. A grandmother just as mean as Dr. House!

Well written, I would definetly recommend it!

http://image.com.com/tv/images/processed/super/59/6f/1557.jpgMy favorite TV show is House! On Tuesdays at 9 pm I am glued to the TV watching channel 4. It is about this doctor named House. He is always sort of grumpy, mostly mean, always right to the point, never sugar-coating anything. His specialty is infections that nobody knows what they are. Of course, he has a team around him which adds to the drama. It is not very reality based but hey… I LOVE this show. What´s not to like about a mean cranky doctor with a bum-leg causing him to be addicted to vicodin. In Sweden we are still on the first season so please don´t spoil it!!!

Any one else out there liking this show or something else?

http://kilby.sac.on.ca/towerslibrary/pages/users/Hotel%20Rwanda.jpgYesterday we finally decided to watch this movie. We knew it was going to be an important movie to watch but we dragged it out for a long time. Mostly because it would be a hard movie to watch. Now I am glad I watched it.

The movie is telling a true story about Rwandas Schindler. We get to follow the Hutu Hotel manager with his Tutsi wife who saves hundreds of lives during the massacre of the Tutsi minority. You get a glimpse of how dark the human soul can be and how one person can make a change in the midst of despair.

It also shows how cold we are in the Western world, deciding not to get involved. Why do we keep doing nothing?

This is a very good and important movie. I don not cry often while watching movies, but I did with this one!

http://studioscreenings.com/galleries/Dear-Frankie/Dear_Frankie_001.jpgWe just finished watching this charming movie.

It is about nine yearold Frankie and his mother Lizzie. Lizzie has been telling Frankie that his dad is traveling across the world on a ship. Frankie has been writing his dad sending the letters to a P.O Box where his mother picks them up and writes him back pretending to be the dad. It all becomes a bit complicated when the ship the father is supposed to be on docks in their city. Lizzie will have to make a choice - tell the truth or “rent” a dad.

The movie won awards in Cannes, Toronto International Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival, and Tribeca Film Festival. Great camera angles, nice music, down to earth script and acting.

Read more about this movie on Miramaxs homepage.

It got the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Motion Picture (the mother of all awards). I must say, rightly so. Crash is not the everyday Hollywood production movie with everything predicatble in it. It’s a collection of life stories masterfully weaved together in this close to 2 hour long movie. This movie takes a critical look at society and how prejudice and unjustice is something that we all carry and how it effect us all, wether we want to see it or not.

http://ae.philly.com/images//10/29/05-05-2005-07:10:29:166-Crash0506.jpgIt is rated R in the US for language, sexual content, and some violence. In Sweden it’s rated 7-year olds may see it with guardian, though I might say 11-13 might be more appropriate because a child would just not understand the depth of this movie.

I saw this movie in the US while it was still playing in the theatres and I just watched it again this week at work with the clients. It’s a very thought-provoking movie.

I Went to this movie tonight all by myself because Mirjam had to study. Fun with Dick and Jane stars Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni. They both did a terrific job portraying a married couple that loses everything due to the corporate scandals of 2000.

Draining thier assets and selling everything that is not nailed down, they turn to a life of crime to pay the bills. There are alot of funny moments throughout the movie. The ending seemed a little anti-climactic, but maybe that was because it was midnight when it ended. Overall, I thought it was pretty good compared to the other stuff that is out right now.
