March 2008

We had a little bit of summer in 2007, most warm days clustered right at the beginning… May or early June. Then came the rain and never really left. All the rest of our summer and the fall months were well… fall like. Then came what is usually winter months but the fall weather stayed. Raining, no sun, clouds, NO sun!

We haven´t had any winter, just dark rainy and windy days. And then came Spring! Wonderful spring with sun and warmth. The days are longer and it doesn´t feel like walking around at night all of the time.

Last Sunday (the Sunday before Easter) was wonderful. We took a long walk and brought some coffee. I tried to capture the sun playing in the water running in the ditch next to the road. Our camera batteries died just then so I had to use Sam´s cellphone camera…

We walked through the forrest and enjoyed the view from above Jönköping.

It all seemed like a great start for Spring and the nice summer we are all expecting this year.

But NO! Things are not the way they used to be. There is no order in nature anymore. From fall to spring and now to winter. We get the first of winter at the end of March. Monday morning, the day after our nice forest walk and the first picnic of the year, we woke up to snow, cold, and ice! It hasn´t left us since. Who knows maybe we will have winter in the summer now? Nature, the climate, it is not what it used to be!

We have a great outdoor market which is about a 7 minute walk from our apartment. It is one of the few places in Jönköping that you can get a fresh, greasy, American style doughnut. You can find some really cool stuff …and some strange stuff too. This week Mir and I spotted a stand that was selling t-shirts with running horses on them. (Think Napoleon Dynamite)

As we left the market Mir pointed out a couple of old men leaving the market. One guy had some chocolates, flowers and a pear. The other guy had a pear and a toilet plunger. They just looked funny sitting together in the clear plastic sack….so I snuck up and took a pic of them.

Most of our readers already know but now it is time to make it a bit more official and write some about it on the blog.

Today Sam and I went to the clinic for our second ultrasound. I am now towards the end of the 12th week. Risks decrease significantly but worries remains. But that is not what I am focusing on today.

The baby is now only inches (6 cm) long yet we could see hints of fingers and toes. This is not the “big” ultra sound machine you see on TV shows (no checking the heart chambers etc, just to ease our worries and make sure the heart was beating). It is less technically defined. The baby was mostly laying camly not moving too much but then all of a sudden we could see both legs move, then the arms, then it curled up (it is called fetal position for a reason) only to stretch out a bit again.

Today we are happy and calm but worries will slowly creep back. We are thankful for all the prayers that are carrying us through those difficult days. And we wanted to also share some of our joy today!
