Well, after soaking up the sun for a few days, Mir and I decided to hit the countryside in search of some authentic Grand Canarian culture and food. We rented a tiny car and set out. The first stop was in a little villiage in the mountains. The view was spectacular!
We found a little mom and pop restaurant and tried the rabbit soup…not bad! It had lots of beans and strange veggies in it. We realized that outside of the resorts, no one speaks English…so we did our best using gestures and a handfull of Spanish words that we picked up. The bathrooms at the restaurant were a bit primative…but here is the view from the toilet! (if you decided not to close the door that is)
After a few more stops, we ended up in a town called Teror. I really liked the name of it and really wanted to stop.
We found a coffee shop next to an old Spanish church. What luck!…and they had an espresso machine! We were super excited to try it out!
The coffee sucked! I have no idea what they did to it. I think maybe my worst cup ever.
We went out to the square and saw an old woman selling roasted nuts. She roasted them on coals right in the square. I was all over that! I got in line and pointed and gestured to the lady that I wanted some nuts.
It must be an aquired taste!

I hope you didn’t eat too many of them. I hear they put hair on your chest…

You can develop a taste for chestnuts. I try them each time I’m in NY. Each time gets a little better. So sorry about the horrible coffee! The landscape is beautiful.
