Jonas complained that he was tired of looking at my church-rooster. Sorry. It has been a pretty hectic week. Mirjam was in Örebro for the last few days while I was studying frantically for 3 tests and last weekend we were in Lund. Anyway, I was having a tough time coming up with a topic to blog about, so I browsed my cell phone for a few pics.
The first one is a pic I snapped at a friends house. It was at a birthday party and there were maybe 25 Swedes there. The food was wonderful. But I had to take a picture of the buffet table at the end of the night. You will notice that there is exactly one of everything left. That’s because Swedes never take the last of anything.
I like this one. Mir and I took a walk through a large cemetery during “halloween”. There were thousands of candles everywhere.
Jonas this one is for you buddy. Since you nudged me to update our blog, here is a picture of Mir and Andy in your hometown bakery….mmmm. We had a REALLY good fika.

Not taking the last one…..that is soooooo Lutheran! But then we tell each other many many times…go ahead, you have it…no, you have it….no really, go ahead, you have it. Finally, somebody takes the last one.
What are all the Halloween cemetery candles about?
Great pic of Mir and Andy. Those glasses are so European

Yeah Maxima you are right! I guess that “not taking the last one” immigrated over with all those Scandinavians.
The candle thing is what they do on “all saints day.” They put candles on all of the graves to remember the dead. here is last years blog about it. http://swedenusa.megaweblog.com/2006/11/05/all-saints-day/

oh yah, now I remember after I reread your last years blog. (getting older is hard on the memory) Nice pic this year of the candles. Do they sell some kind of special one that does not go out with the wind? Man if I was Elton John….and I looked at all those candles, I might write a famous song or something like that.

oh, I meant to ask….and what happens to the last piece in Sweden? Does the dog get it after everyone leaves?

I don´t know what happens to the last piece. The people we visited did not have a dog. My guess is that the host eats it in the kitchen because they really wanted it…
And the candles - yes they are special candles for graves with a lid and they last for a very long time too.

the candels have lids… that is what I mean.. special candles with lids made and sold to be put by graves.
