A Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc. You can use this link to find the walk score in your neighborhood. The scores are between 1 and 100. It was fun putting in our old addresses to see what the scores were.
Here is what we found;
Our beloved North Central University got a 77.
Our condo in Edina got a 65.
Unfortunately, it only scores addresses in the USA, so we can’t grade our neighborhood here in Jönköping…
here is the link…give it a try!

Cool idea. Our score was 63. I wonder how they calculate this, though? Shouldn’t each address have the same radius for the search? Ours did not include the beautiful Minnehaha Park (less than 2 miles away). My brother’s got a score of 60, but the search was expanded to 13 miles! Good luck walking back

It might list the park 13 miles away but I don´t think it calculates it into the score. I am not sure though!?
Sam put in a Saco adress and the walkability was really really low even though it listed parks and grocery stores in the neighboring town.

Yeah, I am not exactly sure either…but I think the closer the store is…the more points you get. On the side you can plug in famous places and see those walk scores. The apartment from “Friends” scored a perfect 100! And Bush’s Crawford “Ranch” scored a 0.

Something is up if they didn’t count Minnehaha though…that is a pretty big park!

We got a 12 even though we sit on a trail in the woods to Carver Park.
Pizza, coffee, book shops, library, city hall and more are all within 1-2 miles. None over 2 miles.
I think it gets such a low number because you put your life in your back pocket when you cross the street with all these crazy socker moms in their minivans driving like a maniac. It is dangerous even in a car when they need to get to a soccer field on time. Sometimes I am tempted to follow them and when they park….ask them just what they were thinking going through a red light to get there on time???
I fingure though, that if they are wacko enough to go through a red light with four kids in the van….they are certainly capable of wacking me. I don’t need that. I do have to admit that I say a prayer that they get into a fender bender that costs LOTS of money causing them to slow down. hehehehe I am sooooo bad.
