Yeah… you all heard smorgasbord before… and some have heard julbord… but have you heard of smorgascake? Of course in the native writing it would be smörgås. We often serve this at parties. It is sort of fancy. They come in different flavors. Easy to serve since everyone cuts their own piece and nothing needs to be kept warm. Works great at weddings… funerals… or when you have a lot of people over for dinner.
That is what happened this time. My brother and his family ordered a smorgascake…. could be translated as sandwichcake too. It is really a sandwich. A fancy looking one. Bread pieces as big as cake in layers like a tort I suppose. Filling in-between the layers. This is tuna with shrimp. Very good. I think ham is the second most popular kind. Then you decorate it with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber etc… like a sandwich!

Anyway, that looks so delicious. I remember eating something like that but can’t remember where….did you bring that to one of the work parties?
I am so hungry for a great buffet item like that. Nice job on this one!

This looks delicious! Is that shrimp on the top layer? How do you get such large bread?
I see lots of resemblance in your brother’s children to you, Mirjam.

Maxima: Nope… it was at my brothers house when Sam´s sister and her family came over last month.
Irish: Yup, that is shrimp. You can buy the bread in grocerystores if you would like to make it yourself otherwise you can just order a cake in the deli at the grocerystore or at most cafés.

Em, are you fasting? Hungry? Or perhaps you’ve gotten sick after having had smörgåstårta? What’s the problem. Mi and Sam please, write more about this great topic! There’s more to know! More pics too please!

OHHHHHHHHHHH now I remember where I have seen a party food like that! It is Dutch and called huzaren salade and is served for New Years. And of course, the Dutch make a big party of New Years….so I remembered it as a party food, buffet style.
I thought I was going crazy….I knew I had seen it AND tasted it.
