Anyone ever did a good interview?
I just had an interview for a job that I really want. I studied material and research for weeks before the interview. I have so many ideas for the job and I was excited about it. I even like the bosses and the organisation as a whole. I think I really know what to do for the job… I believe I have what it takes…
But I did an aweful interview. I was totally nervous and the answers… looking back… was not as sharp as they could have been. So what gives…
Today I feel like I totally lost the opportunity. I know someone else is diving in and taking the job. So I am wondering, I have a lot of friends here that have jobs, that have done a lot of these interviews. What makes for a good interview? How do you really sell yourself? And how do you take that bad one and learn, shake it off, and start looking for something else. What is your own little secret?
I suppose that is my secret. I start looking for something else and then I realize that there are a whole lot of other things to get excited about… that I know how to do… that I know I really like.

I think it is a good idea to ask them before the interview if they ever press charges.

Well, I have worked side by side with you for years and I am SURE you are the best person for the job. I have seen you come up with the most creative problem solving spur of the moment. And you will be dead on correct. It is a very powerful sixth sense that you have for this kind of work. I hope they understand that people get nervous and their talents do not show through during the interview.
Soooooooooooo, I am asking myself, why did this interview not go well for you? hmmmmm thinking back to a few years ago when we had our first day of orientation and you said to me..”pinch me, NO DON’T, I don’t want to wake up from this”. I think that was your strong sixth sense, knowing that what we were being told was so far from the truth (as we later found out). It was the truth squeeking out and we squashed it back to silence.
Now, this is what I think,…… you didn’t choke at all. Your incredible sixth sense read something and knows something that your serious desire for this job is trying to squash. I know you would be good at this new job. In fact you would be fantastic and they would be lucky to have you. BUT, is that job going to be good for you and Sam? I don’t know. But I do know this…..that if you open your heart and let it stay open, you know where our strength and direction comes from. Just let that process happen. You will be directed to the right job for you AND for them. It might be this one and it might be another one. But you are good at this Mirjam….I have seen you do it dozens and dozens if not hundreds of times. Yes, I mean the task of the work for the clients, but I also mean the process of letting go of the outcome and just trusting that you will be given the right opportunity(for yourself). My mouth hangs open in awe when I think about having watched you do this. It is like watching a little miracle. You have your talent and you have your source of knowledge and power. It will all come together in the right job, trust the process.
Does all that make sense? That was the long version. The short version is: it was not the right job for you and something in you knew that and blew the interview.
And maybe you should have broken the ice with a dumb blonde joke???????

Mirjam!
You don’t KNOW if you blew the interview!
But, I think it’s much better to feel like you do now after the interview than to feel certain you did great and confident you’ll get the job and then get a capital “NO”! That is much worse.
At least now you can use your feeling of having failed the interview as an opportunity maker and look around for all the other doors that stand open for you. Explore them all! If it turns out you were right and they don’t choose you, you have already looked around at other options.
However, if you are offered the job, you’ll be happily surprised and at the same time you’ll also know that there are other alternatives if you end up not liking your job! In fact, you may find exciting jobs out there that may be even more stimulating for you both intellectually and financially than the job you were interviewed for!!!
Apply, apply, apply! And keep applying until you have that job contract in your hand!
Love!
