“What? I have to take ballet classes?”
My husband looked at me with part shock and part desparation. Pleading eyes begging me “NO”!

I bursted out laughing. We were just taking a Sunday stroll in the sunshine in Jönköping talking about life, finances, future, jobs, classes, and some more finances. We were talking in Swedish and I asked my husband “Du får kolla valutakursen”. This is when Sam asks confused and scared “I have to take ballet classes….(pause)… I have to watch ballet classes” he corrects with more desperation in his voice. I laugh even more. Of course what I was asking was for him to check the currency rate. Kurs in Swedish can be either rate or course/class……

Life in a new culture and a new laungage can be very funny if you allow it to be!

That reminded me of last night. We are staying at the Luxor in Las Vegas and the fire alarm went off last night just as we got off the elevator. It rang for about 5 minutes so we decided to leave. Just as we were headed out, a message came over the intercom and the alarm went off. Blips asked, “what did she say?????” Well, it sounded to me like she said, “we love you very much and you can go back to your rooms now. Sorry for the inconvenience.” She said the same thing three times, and I just could not get a handle on what exactly she was saying……so, maybe they do love us alot here in LV!!!
