Ever did something really stupid…
… you would have to regret the rest of your life?
About a year ago we bought a digital camera. In our opinion a really good one. We did the research and asked friends and family. We got one with a bunch of pixels so that we could make large picture of our photos. You know hang them on the wall.
We were really happy with the pictures we took on our vacation in July. Some we shared here on the blog. So we went to make 3 well chosen photos into canvas art to hang in our bedroom.
Here’s the kicker…
When we bought the camera we changed the resolution so that we could fit more pictures on our small memory card. When we bought a larger memory card we had forgotten all about setting the camera.
Ladies and gents.. we had it set for e-mail and electronic sharing. Meaning: we can’t even make regular sized photos of our pictures without making them grainy and dotty…

This *might* help you feel better.
Two camera’s before this one, blips spent 4 months researching options and prices. He found a really really great one on the internet and ordered it. Next day, he gets a phone call asking if he wanted the batteries and a USA warranty for the camera too??? After questions, he grasped that he ordered an ‘international version’ which is not valid in the USA. Well, they give you about 15 seconds to decide if you want to pay an extra $200. It makes you mad but you realize if you want a whole camera, you have to add the $200 to your credit card.
We get the camera and it does not work. AT ALL. We try to cancel the Discover charge but Discover won’t do it. Blips calls the # that says you get your money back and they won’t give our money back. He does some research on-line and finds many many complaints against this place and a picture of the address…. a rusted door paddlocked shut between two porn shops in Brooklyn. By now we are thinking we just got a $600 lesson.
BUT Blips is not done yet. He goes to Radio Shack and gets a recording device that hooks to your phone. He calls them back asking for a return #. (they will not accept returns without an authorized return number). They start out that they are recording the conversation and Blips says “that’s good because I am recording it also” They tell him he cannot do that. He says if they can do it then he can do it also. THe conversation took about 20 minutes. Blips asked him to repeat certain things for the recording. hehehehehhe The guys broken asian-english is getting very nervous and he ends up giving Blips an authorized return #.
Blips mails it immediately with confirmation mail with signature. He tracks it online and sees when it is confirmed delivered. We saw online it was delivered BUT we never did get the postcard back with any signature. I guess the mailman does not like hanging around that neighborhood any longer than he takes to ‘drop and run’.
In the next week when there was no refund to our Discover, I called the MN attorney’s general who said it is NY’s territory. I call NY attorney’s general and they say they don’t do anything with these guys because by the time they find them to prosecute, they have shut down and opened up in another name. They do this on a rotating basis every 3-9 months. (open under a new name)
Blips does some more looking and can find at least 3 previous names for this ‘rusty-door’ company. SAME ADDRESS.. bold theives!
We are really bummed out by it and then about 1.5 weeks after the recorded phone call, there is a refund on our Discover card. wooo hooo….but now we start to worry about what they will do with our credit card #. We figured they would probably sell it to somebody. We checked our statements pretty closely and still do.
But, that is our story of ….did you ever do something and regret it completely. YES!!!
And we are no dummies…but the wording is very slick and twisted to lure you in. Our last camera we got at Best Buy
I am so sorry you can’t print those pics. I bet you had some really great shots

Wow, that is some experience! Strange that the attorney wouldnt at least try to shut those guys down. Who knows how much they have been stealing? I am very happy we at least bought our camera at Best Buy. Our issue is a case of CBC…. I think my brother might diagnose it that… meaning crap behind the controlls. Our problem is fixed now and we know where to look, double check and how to change the settings easily!
