It’s the World Cup in soccer! Huge! Tonight a big big game for us Swedes. Sceptical? Yes! We are playing England. How in the world are we going to stop Rooney, Owen, and Beckham? The coach for England is actually a Swede so if they win… may I at least think that we also won?
Last week we scored our first goal and won the game. The windows flung open and people were yelling out on the streets. It was awesome. Cars were driving down the streets honking and people shouting until midnight.
Our neighbor has a big Swedish flag on their balcony and they are all wearing swedish soccer jerseys. Just so you know… we don’t have the Swedish flag on display as much as in the states. As I’m writing this… Sam is opening the window to get started for the game. Just so we can joing the neighborhood’s ahhhh, nooooo, and hopefully gooooooaaaaal!
Now lets hope!

I can’t believe I missed the whole game. I watched the game before and then they switched to a ballgame. I thought it was just a filler until the Sweden/England game. I kept waiting, thinking I had the time wrong. Then I found it on the internet and it was all over. bummer
But it sounds like Sweden was great in the second half. And I have a picture in my head of two windows flying open and you two yelling…..goooooooooooooal 2 times!!!!
yeah, they made you proud. Go Sweden.

Yes, great game. Our players told the journalist that they decided to not have so much respect for the English after the second half. That’s when they came out and actually played instead of just chasing the britts.
Of course, I was on edge and thought it was all over many times. The Swedes showed that they can come back from behind not just once but twice. There for they actually won this game at least the self-confidence.
It was also important that one of our key goal scoring guys actually got to score a goal. First time in a very long time for Henke Larsson.
This means we advanced and on Saturday we are playing against the host country: Germany.

Mirjam: Your story of opening the window shouting out in the street brings back good old memories of our crazy hockey days!! Speaking of flags and sports accessories, do you remember the Canadian flag that we skillfully fabricated and brought with us into the canoe? The best ideas are definitely created under the influence of sports!!
Finally an act of a former total sports fanatic: Go Sweden Go!!
Great blogg, dearest Mirjam and Samuel!
