The bird flu?
Today has been low energy for me. I’ve had a slight temperature with a headache and sore throat. It’s not too bad but enough to start whining. It seems a lot of us are feeling this way. We’ve been poping painkillers at work. My niece is also feverish. So for a night snack my brother went to get hotdogs for all of us and some fries. Nothing really tastes good when you aren’t feeling well but for some reason hotdogs sounded good to all of us.
Tomorrow I’m going to my sister and mom’s town. I have decided that I will be well tomorrow….

The good thing about winter is

The good thing about a long cold winter is that we get less of these… ticks and murdersnails/killersnails.

VIDEO CLIP OF THE WEEK
Well, the condo still hasn’t sold and I miss my wife. We have decided that I am going over to Sweden next month regardless of what happens. But until that time I always have fainting goats to make me laugh…enjoy. (click on the goat)

Eurovision Song Contest

Sweden has been in a Eurovision songcontest stupor since I arrived. Most of us Swedes love this contest in singing. Carola (in blue) is somewhat of a songcontest queen. That is how she became popular. She won the Swedish contest as a teenager back in the early eighties and placed 3rd in the European contest. Carola competed again in 1990 but didn’t win the spot to compete in Europe, but the next year she tried again and won both the Swedish competition and the European. That’s 15 years ago. She competed again this year and won. The European competition is held in Athens sometime at the end of May. All our newspapers and gossip columns are focusing a lot of attention on Carola. She is a love or hate her object and she is followed by Swedish paparazzi much like Paris Hilton.
The European Songcontest has been going on for about 50 years. It’s our Superbowl party night. That was how ABBA became popular when they won with their song “Waterloo.” The competition is by no means only for amateurs though many are.

The group Rednex from Sweden also competed this year with their hew haw song “Mama, won’t you take me home.” It was funny and very much not to my liking.
Gunther and the Sunshine girls were also part of the Swedish competition this year. It was very comical. We are still making fun of them! They didn’t even make it to the Swedish finals.

Shopping for essentials
Today I spent a lot of money. But it was fun! It could have been more fun if Sam was here with me making these important decisions. Marie was a great stand-in helper and her taste has always been excellent so I am very thankful that she wants to help me.
I bought this bed. It’s very comfy! Best of all, it was on sale, about 30% off!
And I bought an espresso/cappucino/coffee maker. So we will have great Saturday morning! I can’t wait for our good friends to come visit us when everything is placed just so in our new home and I have learned how to make the perfect cup of coffee.

Ads
As most of you have noticed, there are now google ads on the blog website. Note that these are important to keep this site running. Feel free to click on any add that might be of interest (it helps pay administration fees).
Also note that it’s not Sam or Mirjam who decides what the adds are going to be. They are automatic and we don’t necessarily support the content. However, some are very interesting and I have enjoyed some of the ads I clicked on!

Somewhere to live!
Whoooaaa! Sam and I now offically have our own apartement in Sweden. It’s a one-bedroom apartment (64sqmeters). Very nice! Newly renovated. It’s one of the areas in Jönköping where a lot of people want apartments. It’s basically walking distance to the large college. It is about a block to a grocery store, half a block to the bus stop and in the same block of several cafes and cute restaurants. I am completly excited and happy. I can’t wait to move in, which will be the 1st of May at the latest. I’ve
been walking through IKEA today and wondering what furniture will fit and what we might like. I’m starting to buy a few nice things to put in the windows. I also bought some nice silverwear today. I can’t wait to create a home here.
My brother and his family helped celebrate yesterday. Marie made some great french bread sandwiches with shrimp. They also gave us a very nice gift that will helped warm our home and make things beautiful and cozy.
Now, if we only could sell the other apartment…..

Jon Stewart on deficit spending:
“Good news today out of Washington — they haven’t paid down the debt or come up with any program to do so. What they did is raise the limit of debt we can go to, to $9 trillion. It sends a great message to the kids: ‘Hey are you getting an F? Don’t study harder. Just make the grading curve go out to K! Then your F looks like a C!’”
